Absorption Ratio and Polarization Index

Absorption Ratio (DAR): The ratio of the insulation resistance value at 1 minute to the insulation resistance value at 30 seconds.

Polarization Index (PI): The ratio of the insulation resistance value at 10 minutes to the insulation resistance value at 1 minute. This index helps determine if equipment has been affected by moisture, impacting insulation resistance.

In high-voltage scenarios, insulating materials undergo absorption and polarization processes. The polarization index is essential in assessing the insulation quality and aging in the power system, particularly for main transformers, cables, and motors.
